派外人員的國際發展技巧
(人力資源管理) 有一篇文章曾描述派外人員應有的人格特質,我個人非常喜歡。特摘錄如下: 理想上,似乎是,他(她)應該有奧林匹克游泳選手的耐力、愛因斯坦的心智思考能力、 外文教授的會話技巧、法官的公正性、外交官的機智及埃及金字塔建造者的毅力……, 能夠掌握國外工作及生活的需求,對不同文化的感情,他(她)的道德判斷不能太固執, 他(她)應該像變色龍一樣容易地與當地環境結合成一體,而且他(她)也不能顯出有任何的偏見。 這樣的人格特質似乎不可能在一個人身上找到,但每一項特質都是相當的重要且有用的, 尤其當我們遇到某些情況時,更能體會。舉例而言,因表達不清楚可能使顧客造成錯誤的判斷, 甚至損失我們的訂單。另一個常常必須面對的問題是,自海外單兵作戰時, 遇到問題一定要自己設法理解,克服萬難,怎麼辦?你將會深深體會到你是誰,你到底還需要什麼。 接到派駐海外的任命時應做好準備並研究下列課題: 1.社交及商業禮儀。 2.歷史與民俗。 3.時事,包括派駐國與我國的關係。 4.文化的價值觀及對事情的優先順序。 5.地理,尤其是派駐的城市。 6.引以為榮的事情:藝術家、音樂家、小說家、運動、文化上偉大的成就,包括值得看及做的事。 7.宗教及宗教在日常生活的角色。 8.政治結構及當今政壇人物。 9.現實事情,如匯率、交通、時區、辦公時間。 10.語言。 做好上述準備是必須的,且可以減少遭遇文化衝擊的程度,關於派外人員及配偶的文化衝擊問題, 一直是國際化管理上的一大課題,每一個人都應該確實做好這些準備。唯有把日常生活調適好, 才能在工作上有所表現。接下來就必須針對你特定的地區、顧客的需求來提升自己的專業能力。 最後,特別強調,公司必須自派外人員出國前就做好規劃工作,訓練派外人員並安排其返任事宜。 協助派外人員及其家屬,才能使派外人員無後顧之憂在國際舞台上盡情演出, 展現東元一流人才的魅力,締造東元的一流業績。 Techniques for International Development of Expatriates There is an article describing the personal characteristics of expatriates that I like very much.It is as follows: Ideally, it seems, he(she) should have the stamina of an Olympic swimmer, the mental ability of an Einstein, the con-versational skill of a professor of languages, the detachment of a judge, the tact of a diplomat and the perseverance of an Egyptian pyramid builder……And if he(she) is going to measure up to the demands of living and work-ing in a foreign country, he(she) should also have a feeling of culture; his(her) moral judgment should not be too rigid; he(she) should be able to merge with the local environment with chame-leon-like ease and he(she) should show no signs of prejudice.” The personal characteristics above seen impossible to exist. But every characteristic is very useful and important when you are in a certain situation. For instance, your presentation is not clear enough because of wrong pronunciation which will mislead our customers for wrong decision, and even miss the business opportunity. Another situation is you always have to face problems and solve them all by yourself; nobody can really help you by that time. How will your do it? What is the solution? What are you having for? You will realize what you are, and what you need. To prepare for an international assignment, study the following subjects: 1. Social and business etiquette. 2. History and folklore. 3. Current affairs, including relations between local and headquarter. 4. The culture’s values and priorities. 5. Geography especially the cities. 6. Sources of Pride: artists, musicians, novelists, sports, great achievements of the culture, including things to see and do. 7. Religion and the role of religion in daily life. 8. Political structure and current players. 9. Practical matters such as currency, transportation, time zones, hours of business. 10. The language. The preparation is essential and will effectively reduce the degree of culture shock. The problem of culture shock for both expatriates and their spouses are the critical issue for inter-national management. Everybody should make most efforts to do this. If he (she) can adopt to daily life well then he (she) can handle business well. So, next topic for you is to enhance your professional knowledge and focus on specific customer need in different areas. Finally, a company ought to arrange planning and training for expatriates and repatriates. Assist them to play a successful role in the expatriation. That is TECO Charisma.
